Evie Lorene Peeples Shields, age 90, died Monday, May 14, 2013 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born March 3, 1923 in Calhoun County, MS to the late Allen White and Vivian Bell Peeples. Lorene owned and operated a retail shoe business in Water Valley until her retirement and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of her flowers, quilting and spending time with her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley and attended the Ruth Sunday School class.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will follow the visitation at First Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Dr. Randy Bain and Bro. James Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery in Calhoun County, MS with Robbie White, William Savage, Brandon Smith, Richard Hood, Grant Holley, Spencer Shields, Mike Dailey and Billy Wayne Sullivan and Kenny Smith serving as pallbearers.
Lorene is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Shields and Alice Henderson (John) all of Water Valley, MS; two sons, Buford Carl Shields (Jane) and Spencer Penny Shields (Carol) all of Horn Lake, MS; eight grandchildren, April (Mike) Dailey, Mandy (Kenny) Smith, Cristy (William) Savage, Suzanne (Robbie) White, Marie (Grant) Holley, Spencer (Crystal) Shields, Beth (Richard) Hood and Harold Spencer Turner; 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Buford Spencer Shields; one great granddaughter, Michaela Faith Dailey; one great grandson, William Elijah Savage; and one great great granddaughter, Mary Grace Smith.
The family requests that memorials be made to Save-a-Life Ministries in Oxford, MS.
