Barbara J Pond, 84, of Little Compton, RI, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Willard Brownell Jewell and Ann (Hennessey) Jewell. She is survived by her beloved husband Franklin 'Pat' Pond and her children Debra Pond of Wethersfield, CT and Steven Pond of Little Compton.
Barbara attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and later in life attended University of Massachusetts (Dartmouth), where she studied creative writing. An accomplished writer and poet, she was a reporter for the Hartford Times and Glastonbury (Connecticut) Citizen newspapers and author of the novel Falcons of Ormond, of which she was very proud.
While living in Glastonbury, she was active in local politics and civic affairs and served on the Republican Town Committee and Glastonbury Redevelopment Agency. In Little Compton she had been a member of the Historical Society, Sogkonate Garden Club, Sakonnet Preservation Association and Village Improvement Society.
Barbara was a great lover of history. She was a dealer in antiques and the fifth generation of her family to live in her Maple Avenue home. A life long sport fan, she was a devoted follower of the New England Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-laws John W. and Nancy Jewell of Houston, TX and Richard B. and Lynne Jewell of Los Angeles, CA and their families.
