Worcester – Lena Rose (Sena) Porcaro, 95, of Worcester passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013, in the Worcester Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Her husband, Albert “Albay” N. Porcaro died in July of 1993 shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Lena leaves her four sons and daughters-in-law: Stephen and Maria of Holden; Richard and Patty of Spencer; Bill and Sheila of Worcester; and Ken and Cheryl of Shrewsbury; her grandchildren: Matthew, Adam, Michael, Jessica, Jeffrey, Katie, Danny, Erica and Gianna Rose; and her great grandchildren: Dylan, Christopher, and Sophia; her dear friends Cynthia and Joe Heffernan and their six children; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Born in Worcester on October 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Pietro and Rosaria (Rigiero) Sena. Lena was the last surviving member of her close-knit family of seven sisters and three brothers, whose descendants now total over 400.
Lena will be remembered for her devotion to her family – her husband and four sons and their families – while always remaining close with her siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and neighbors. She returned to the workforce when her children entered college, working first at Filene’s in the accounting offices, and later retiring from American Mutual Insurance Co., both in Worcester. She was also involved in school related organizations, serving as president of the PTA, and in church groups as president of the Women’s Auxiliary at the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church, as well as the Beato Angelo in Worcester.
Lena’s family would like to recognize the wonderful care of the entire staff at WRHC (formerly Radius Healthcare); and a special note of thanks for the devotion shown by her niece Anna Frederico, her nephew Peter and his wife Joann Sena; her nieces Carolyn DiBaro and Linda Porcaro; and her loving friend Cynthia Heffernan.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday May 14th at FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch Street, Worcester, Ma. with a Funeral Mass at 11:00a.m. at St Ann Church of Shrewsbury. Burial will be in St John’s Cemetery.
