Donald Benton, 75, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Sunday, May 12, 2013, in the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ronny Griner officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
Mr. Benton was born November 14, 1937, in Manchester, Georgia to the late Lester Ashley Benton and the late Mabel Kersey Benton Davis. He was a 1956 graduate of Manchester High School. Mr. Benton served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was retired department manager for Shaw Industries with 25 years service. An honorary member of the Elks Club, Mr. Benton was a member of the former Fitzgerald Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. Together with his wife, Mr. Benton loved to travel and fish. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Jimmie L. Benton; daughter and son-in-law: Becky Benton Pierce & Danny Ray; and one granddaughter: Leeza Hall, all of Fitzgerald. Two brothers also survive: Derrell Benton and Tony Beck.
