Obituary

Hampton, NH – John B. Devine, 84, of Hampton, NH (formerly Methuen, MA, Salisbury Beach and Boca Raton, Florida) passed away peacefully on May 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lawrence, MA he was the son of James J. and Anna V. (Manning) Devine. He is predeceased by his brother James Devine and sister Eileen Fluet.
John graduated from Lawrence High School in 1946. After graduation he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 – 1948. John continued his education and went on to receive his degree from New England College of Pharmacy in 1952. During and after college he worked in construction as a Gradall Operator for his brother at James J. Devine Gradall Rental Service. Shortly after receiving his degree, he purchased a family pharmacy at the corner of East Haverhill and Prospect Street in Lawrence, MA. He owned and operated it under the name Devine’s Pharmacy, providing for the Greater Lawrence area until 1983.
Upon retiring, he enjoyed spending his time in Boca Raton, FL and Salisbury Beach. He played golf for many years and was a member of Andover, Vesper, and Abenaqui Country Clubs.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years Theresa A. (Sammataro), daughters Doreen Keller and her husband Michael of So. Hampton, NH, Cathy Byrnes and her husband Michael of Methuen, Christine Caron and her husband Richard of Salisbury, Carole Devine of Newport, RI and his son John B. Devine, Jr. of Ridgefield, CT. Grandchildren, Rachel Noiseux Dyke, Kaitlyn Kalkanajian, Kimberly McDevitt, Sarah Devine, and Kristen Keller.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday morning at 11 o’clock in Saint Monica’s Church with burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Friends will be warmly received on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association 480 Pleasant Street Watertown, MA 02472 and Salisbury Council on Aging 43 Lafayette Road Salisbury, MA 01952.
