Obituary

Leonard Glenn Walker 89, of Needham died on Sunday August 8th at his home after a long illness. Son of the late Glenn B. and Margaret (Vierheller) Walker, Leonard was born in Salt Lake City Utah on October 28th 1914. He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed at Idaho Power in Boise Idaho moving on to Chicago where he worked for Motorola and later moving to Needham where he completed his career at the Raytheon Corp. in Norwood. Leonard was a resident of Needham for over 45 years. A distinguished Amateur Radio Operator for many years Leonard received many commendations for his public service. At one time he was the youngest ham radio operator in the United States. Leonard was also a senior member in the Institute of Radio Engineers. Leonard was the beloved husband of Naveta P. (Hoag) and the late Ruth (Leonard). Loving father and step-father of Don Walker and his wife Suzanne of Sharon, Steve Walker of Tucson AZ, Robert Walker of Idaho, Richard Walker of Boise Idaho, Joanne Ascheim of Concord NH, Jane Seigel of Kennebunkport, ME, Sharon Hebert of Canton and Carol Rivoire of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He also leaves his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of Leonard’s life will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Friday October 8th at 3:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2:00- 3-00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials in Leonard’s memory may be made to Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice, 3 Edgewater Drive Norwood MA 02062.
