Melvin, Robert C. , of Marshfield died unexpectedly April 30,2013 at the age of 73. Beloved husband of the late Carolyn Melvin, Father of Kathleen Nee and fiance Dwight Freeman of Sorrento, Maine, Robert M.Melvin and his fiance Patty Irwin of Marshfield, Helen M. Bossie and her husband Tony of Whitman. Loving Grandfather of Shannon Tracey, Erica Grindell, Alex and Ariel and the late Melissa Bossie. Great Grandfather of Anthony, John Philip, Mikayla and the late Autumn. Beloved friend of Sally Ann Souza of Taunton. He was the son of the late Robert W. and. Helen S. Melvin. Robert "Sandy" Melvin was born May 10, 1939 in Weymouth ,MA. He resided in Marshfield his entire life. He was a devoted family and community man. He enlisted in the Navy in 1958 serving abourd the USS Randolph, leaving in 1964 with an honorable discharge.He returned to Marshfield and worked for the town until his retirement in 1998. on the tree department, as an auxillary police officer, then as his greatest passion a Marshfield Fire Fighter.He was also a well known oil burner technician. Robert was a 50 year Past Master Mason of cornerstone Lodge , A.F.A.M.and Past Patron of Rexhame Chapter No. 103 OES and was active and dedicated in many associated fraternities. Other Passions included trips to the family cabin in Vermon and weekend camping with friends. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Visiting hours at the Macdonald Funeral home 1755 Ocean Steet, Rt 139 Marshfield, sunday 1-5 pm A masonic service will be held at 5 pm. Funeral service will be held at 11 on Monday May 6th. Interment will be following the service at the Plainville Cemetary, Marshfield.
