Ronald F. Shanahan, 69, of Rutland, died Wednesday, May 1st in Brigham and Woman’s Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Eileen A. (Purcell) Shanahan married for nearly 42 years; his son, Christopher P. Shanahan, his wife Melinda and their son, Brendan of Holden; two daughters, Kelly J. Shanahan of Rutland and Bridget A. Shanahan and her wife, Sara of New York; a brother, James D. Shanahan of Worcester; and several nephews and nieces.
Ronald was born in Worcester, the son of James and Gladys E. (Tochy) Shanahan. He proudly served in the Vietnam War as a Sergeant with the Green Berets and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. Ronald worked for 35 years as a route supervisor for Wonder Bread-Hostess Cakes before retiring in 2003. He most recently worked as a Security Officer for Securitas. In his past time, he was a member of the Westminster Rod and Gun Club and Gardner Rifle and Pistol Club.
His funeral is Saturday, May 4th at Noon in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday, May 4th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home.
