SPRINGFIELD – Dora A. Mantoni, 89, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in West Springfield on July 9, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Augusto and Assunta (Biagetti) Mantoni. She was raised and schooled in Springfield and was nearly a lifelong resident of the city. She was last employed by the Buxton Company. During her leisure time, Dora enjoyed traveling to Europe. She also enjoyed music, attending the opera and the arts. Active in her faith, she was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving twin brother, Lisiero Mantoni who was Called Home on April 28, 1926; her loving sister, Velia Joaquin who was Called Home on January 10, 1972; and her loving brother, Leo Mantoni who was Called Home on November 5, 1988. She leaves her cherished nieces and nephews, Geraldine D. Moriarty of Springfield, Butch Joaquin and his wife, Joyce, of Westfield, Leigh Stewart and her husband, Bill, of Ipswich, MA, and Paul Mantoni and his wife, Lori, of Terryville, CT; her cherished grandnephews and grandnieces; and her cherished great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, May 4, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street, Springfield, MA 01105. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
