Obituary

Helen (Craig) Carter of Concord, NH passed away on April 28, 2013 at the age of 104. She was the wife of the late George W. Carter with whom she shared 70 years of marriage.
She was born in Lowell, MA December 7, 1908, to Ernest and Lillian Craig. In the years following her marriage she lived in Danvers and then Wenham, and later moved to Peterboro, NH before taking residence at Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord.
Mrs. Carter was a creative artist, a wonderful knitter and her Christmas cookies were elegant, elaborate and sought after. She was an immaculate homemaker and a gracious hostess who loved entertaining friends and family. Her home was a welcoming place. Mrs. Carter enjoyed her years at the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead. She was her husband's first mate, loved fishing from the family boat and cooking lobster purchased from passing lobstermen out on the ocean. Through the years she was active in Garden Club and served as President of her church's women's guild. She enjoyed being involved in community projects and had a talent for organizing events, and was an avid fan of both the Patriots and Red Sox, holding enthusiastic and vocal opinions on all matters of the games. Helen cherished her friends and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Sara C. Saplin and her husband William, of Danvers; three grandchildren, Beth Ann Burns and her husband, Lawrence of Westerly, RI; Kristin L.S. Peppler and her husband, Charles of Hamilton; Geoffrey C. Saplin of Danvers; four great-grandchildren, Sara, Grace, Eve, and her namesake Helen Carter Peppler all of Hamilton; Ruth C. Sheahan, a cousin who was like a daughter to her of Pembroke, NH; Sara Norberg, a devoted friend of Concord, NH, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:30 AM in Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, 188 Elliott Street, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. As requested, there are no visiting hours and burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, 85 Constitution Lane, Suite 200A, Danvers, MA 01923.
