Obituary

LOWELL—R. Norma Gagnon, 83 years old, a longtime resident of Lowell who recently moved to Salem, MA, died Friday morning at Salem Hospital. She was the wife of the late G. Richard Gagnon, who died in October of 1993.

She was born in Lowell, on June 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Austin H. and Mary L. (Riley) McShea, and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1939.

Mrs. Gagnon, a loving wife and mother, was known for her devotion to her family. She was a volunteer at the former St. John’s Hospital, and taught reading at the Holy Union Center in Lowell, and at the Tommy Barfield School in Marco Island, FL. She also contributed to several charities and throughout her lifetime was active in many organizations and societies.

A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and held membership in the Holy Rosary Sodality of that parish, the St. Anthony’s Guild and the St. Jude League.

Surviving her are her children: G. Richard, and his wife Deborah, of Andover; David C., and his wife, Patricia, of Hooksett, NH; J. Jeffrey, of San Clemente, CA; Mary Jo, of Salem; and Glenn A., of Marco Island, FL; one daughter-in-law: Louann Gagnon, of Lowell; six grandchildren: Cara A., Stephen M. Jr., Courtney, Joshua, Travis, and Sarah Gagnon; one great grandson: Ryan Gagnon; three sisters: Dorothy, and her husband Norman, Block of Houston, TX; A. Shirley O’Malley, of Dracut; and Ann Marie, and her husband John, McCarthy of Lowell; two sisters-in-law: Janet Connors, of Lowell; and Helen Poulios, of N. Chelmsford; a brother-in-law: John Lowrey; also several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Stephen M. Gagnon, sister of the late Mary June Lowrey and sister-in-law of the late James and Ruth Gagnon.

At her request there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass Tuesday morning, August 10th, at 10:30 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell, followed by a burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
