Obituary

Lois Estelle Quinn Phillips, 93, of Ocilla, died April 29, 2013, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Ocilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Brenton officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Phillips was born September 1, 1919 in Hazelhurst, Georgia to the late Manning and Meddie McDaniel Quinn. She attended Valdosta State College. She taught in the Ben Hill County and Jeff Davis County school systems and was a former employee of the Irwin County Board of Education. She was a homemaker and a member of Ocilla United Methodist Church where she served as a teacher in the Youth Department. She was very active in the community and local clubs. She was a former member of the Irwin County Library Board, Book Club, and the Garden Club.

She is survived by her two sons: Allen (Jane) Phillips of Tifton, Jimmy (Marion) Phillips of Douglas; daughter: Kay (Leonard) Brogdon of Cedartown; five granddaughters: Jessie Lea Brogdon, Keely Freeman Phillips, Katie Marie Brogdon (Joshua) Pitts, Whitney Phillips and Melissa Phillips (Jason) Tyree; great-grandchild: Brylee Tyree and a sister-in-law: Jimmie Quinn of Alma. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Keely N. Phillips and a brother: Grady Quinn.
