Obituary

Mina H. Blick (Peek), (Lott), 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 with her family by her side.
Mina was born February 13, 1920 in Dycusburg, a small town on the Cumberland River in Crittenden Co. in Western Kentucky to her parents, Newman and Maude Peek.
The oldest of five siblings, Mina attended the Dycusburg School and graduated as the Valedictorian.
After graduation, she attended Draughn's Business College in Paducah and was stranded there for six weeks during the 1937 flood. Mina was a member of the Dycusburg Methodist Church. When she was 14 years old, she met Richard Wayne Lott, also from Dycusburg, who she later married in 1940. Together they appeared in several three act plays both in leading roles; Mina and Wayne Lott were married for 39 years and had five daughters who they raised until Wayne's death in 1979.
Three years later, Mina remarried to Herbert Glenn Blick of Elizabethtown. Mina and Glenn were blessed to share 27 wonderful years together traveling the 48 continental United States and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Mina exuded warmth, style, elegance and grace. Her smile would light up a room. Her laughter was infectious. She loved nature, and especially the rebirth of Spring when her dogwoods and azaleas were in bloom. Possessing an eye for beauty, she decorated her home, often
sewing her own drapes and accessories. She was a member of the former Aldersgate Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Gathering the family on Sunday afternoons for one of her delicious southern meals was a tradition, as she was an excellent cook and known for her cream pies and banana puddings. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she was a lifelong Democrat and regularly discussed politics. In her sixties, she attended Jefferson Community College Southwest and achieved a 4.0 grade point average. She loved spending time with her family, at the lake and enjoyed pontoon boat rides and sitting on her porch swing. In her eighties, she began oil painting classes at the Metro Arts Center in southwest Jefferson County where she further developed her artistic talents. Even into her nineties, she was young of heart and mind. Mina's greatest joy was her family. She placed a priority on education and often spoke proudly of her families’ accomplishments. Known as Nana to her grandchildren, she often said that her grandchildren were B&B: Bright and Beautiful. Her spirit will live on forever in all of us. Mina was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Wayne Lott and Herbert Glenn Blick, her sisters, Virginia Johnston and Sharon Harnice, her brothers, Richard Peek, Sr. and Meredith Peek and her parents. She is survived by her daughters: Carmen Miller (Rep. Charlie Miller), Sue Holton (David), Rebecca Aldred (Bill), Nancy Guida, Julie Hardesty (Joe), and her grandchildren: Judge David Holton (Stephanie), Amy Stewart (Mark), Caroline Oyler (Mike), Charles Miller (Becky), Andrew Holton (Holly), Stephanie Slone (Brian), Dr. Jason Aldred (Alison), Courtney Mazzocchi (Mario), Matthew Aldred (Laura), Meghan Blackburn, Dr. Patrick Aldred (Alicia), John Hardesty, Christian Blackburn, Josh Hardesty, Sarah Aldred and Kathryn Hardesty, and by 15 great-grandchildren.
Her family expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. Umatt, Dr. Morgan, Karen Cassidy and the nursing staff at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital and deep gratitude to her extraordinary caregivers, Cindy Whelan, Patty Perkins, Rita Autry and Lisa Dillander for their loving and compassionate care.
