West Bridgewater – Virginia (Illsley) Billings 93, formerly of Weymouth, passed away Wednesday April 24 in the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Billings.
Born in Haverhill she was the daughter of the late Carl and Katherine (Moses) Illsley.
Virginia met her husband at the Watertown Arsenal during World War II where she was a turret lathe operator and he was a machinist.
After a long career as a proof reader at the Christian Science Publishing House, Virginia retired in 1988.
She had been a Weymouth resident for over 50 years and was longtime member of Weymouth & Rockland Christian Science Church.
She is survived by her children Suzanne L. Dawson and her husband C. William of East Bridgewater, William D. Billings and his wife Connie of Gales Ferry, CT; her grandchildren Brian Dawson of Arlington, Rebecca Dawson of Lowell, Douglas Billings and his wife Claire of Germantown, MD and Stephen Billings and his wife Teresa of Gales Ferry, CT and several great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her dear friend Jackie.
Her funeral service will be held Monday April 29 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Old North Cemetery, Weymouth. Visiting hours will be held Sunday April 28 from 2-4 PM.
