Dorothy McNish Sochovka, 93, of West Scranton, died Sunday at Regional Hospital, Scranton after a long illness. She was the widow of Albert J. Sochovka, who died May 5, 1966.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Mary Brennan McNish, she graduated from Scranton Technical High School. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, West Scranton. She was a devoted and loving wife mother and grandmother. As a young woman, she enjoyed playing basketball in high school and later in a women's league. Her love of basketball led her to meet Al Sochovka, who was first her coach and later became her husband. She spent the last six years as a resident of St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home, where she received loving care.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Knickerbocker and husband, Ripley, Hampden, Maine; son, Albert, Moosic; three grandsons, Erik and Chris Knickerbocker, and Douglas Sochovka; two great-grandsons, several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John McNish.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
