Mabel (Melpomene) Ballas, 80, of Manchester died April 22, 2013.
She was born in Manchester on February 12, 1933, the daughter of Costas and Chrysanthi Sgouris. She graduated from Manchester Central High School, class of 1950.
Prior to retirement, she had been employed in the financial unit of the Manchester School District.
Mabel was a member of the Manchester Women’s Club, The Red Hat Society, and the Anagenesis Ladies Society of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
She was predeceased by her husband George S. Ballas, and her sister Helen Panagos.
Family members include her two daughters, Franceen Ballas Flynn and her husband John of Bedford, Christine Ballas of Manchester; nephews and nieces. The family would also like to acknowledge the care, support, and friendship of Dr. Judith Devine.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St. with her nephews Fr. Dean A Panagos and Fr. Stavros Ballas, as well as the Rev. Fr. Andrew Mahalares officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery.
