Obituary

WESTFIELD – Ernest M. “Ernie” Dupee, 86, of Westfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Renaissance Manor of Westfield. He was born in Chazy, New York, on August 17, 1926, a beloved son of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth (LaForest) Dupee. He was raised in Champlain, New York and left his home at a young age to help support his siblings. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 7th Quartermaster Company, received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal, and attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. He was a member of the VFW Post 3422 in Easthampton. Ernie and his wife, Lorraine, moved to North Adams and later settled in Westfield in 1960 where they raised their family. He was employed for 34 years as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Windsor Locks, CT and retired in 1991. Ernie enjoyed working with his hands doing carpentry, wallpapering, painting, roofing, and landscaping around his home as well as side work in the surrounding area. He was a former communicant of Saint Peter Church in Westfield and was currently a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Ernie was a strong willed man who spent his life providing for his family, sometimes gruff in demeaner, but always loving in his actions and especially his heart. He leaves his devoted wife and best friend, Lorraine D. (Dupre) Dupee. They were married on May 10, 1947 at Saint Mary Church in Champlain, New York and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving children, Michael Dupee of Westfield, Duane Dupee of Westfield, Brian Dupee and his wife, Lynn, of Easthampton, Clyde Dupee of Westfield, and Catherine Sabat and her husband, Matthew, of Chicopee; his six cherished grandchildren, Shawn Dupee, Brandy and Cassy Dupee, and the triplets: Julia, Matthew, and Corinne Sabat; his three great grandchildren; his dear sister, Margaret Cardin of Champlain, NY; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Madelyn C. Dupee who was Called Home on September 3, 1997; his five dear brothers, Leonard, Henry, Alfred, Ervin, and Paul Dupee; and his three dear sisters, Carrie Boyea, Hazel Slattery, and Mildred Dague. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, April 26, 2013, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Mary Cemetery, 203 Southampton Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
