Obituary

Hanover – Thomas R. Mitchell 97 died Tuesday April 16 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Florence (Stephenson) Mitchell.

Born and raised in East Boston where he remained until the age of 65, he was the son of the late Percival and Lillian (Duffy) Mitchell and a graduate of East Boston High School.

Thomas was a proud Veteran of World War II having served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp from 1941-1945.

After his retirement Thomas moved to Hanover where he had resided for the last 10 years.

In true Boston style he was a loyal member of the “Red Sox Nation” an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his loving children Kevin Mitchell and his wife Patricia of Rockland, Thomas Mitchell and his wife Carol of Methuen, and Joyce Zupoffka and her husband David of Florida, his brother William Mitchell and his wife Helen of Peabody and his sister Doris Reimer and her husband Peter of Braintree. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings George, Catherine and Lillian.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday April 24 at 10:30 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday April 23 from 4-7 PM.
