Sarah G. (Sawyer) Shepard, 84, of Minoa, New York, formerly of New Bedford, died Sunday August 1, 2004 at The Crossings Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Walter O. Shepard, to whom she was married for 60 years.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Mary F. (Martin) Sawyer, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Fayetteville in 1999.
Mrs. Shepard was formerly employed as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford until her retirement.
During her retirement, she was an accomplished artist, poet and craftsperson. Her paintings won awards at the Bierstadt Gallery in New Bedford.
Survivors include a son, Walter O. Shepard, Jr., and his wife Nancy, of Fayetteville, New York; a daughter, Faith Shepard Webster, and her husband Ronald, of Hitchens, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Brenda Shepard Spangler.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 7, 2004 at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
