NEW BEDFORD -- Isabel May Sokoll, 87, of New Bedford died Monday, Aug. 2., 2004, at Hathaway Manor. She was the widow of Edmund J. Sokoll and Thorsten A. Ahlander.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Clifford and Gertrude (Murley) Wood, she lived in this community all her life.
For many years, Mrs. Sokoll was employed at Hammond's Fish and Chip and the old Copicut Lodge.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Branch. She was a family-oriented person who loved to dance, loved music and was a people person.
Survivors include two sons, Thorsten A. Ahlander and his wife, Pamela, of Dartmouth and Paul Avila of Acushnet; a daughter, Janice Morency of Fairhaven; nine grandchildren, Thor L. Ahlander, Victor M. Ahlander, Donna Jean Gonsalves and Sheryl Getchell, all of Dartmouth, Brooke S. Ahlander of Natick, and Jennifer Camara, Steve Santos, Jeffrey Avila and Jay Avila, all of New Bedford; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late William Wood and Clifford Wood and grandmother of the late Sandra Lowney.
Her funeral will be at noon Thursday August 5, 2004 at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, Ma., followed by burial in Rural Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m.
