Obituary

Margaret Roberta Cobban, 42, died August 1, 2004 at her parents home in Derry. She was born in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, on January 3, 1962, but had lived in New Hampshire since 1971. She graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1980, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Arts: Art Studio from UNH in 1984. Her love for young children and for art blended in her work at the New Morning School in Bedford, where the unit of study often came to life in Margaret’s posters or papier- mache creatures. These two loves also shine in her sculptures, many of which depict children. She was a member of the New Hampshire Art Association, exhibiting sculpture regularly at the Sunapee Craft Fair and at the various NHAA galleries, and was active in the First Congregational Church in Manchester, where she sang weekly in the Chancel Choir and participated in the many holiday presentations sponsored by the Church. Margaret also enjoyed summers at Strawbery Banke, where she worked as an interpreter of Portsmouth's rich history.

In addition to children, music, and art, Margaret loved travel to view Europe’s old masters, and at home delighted in time spent near the waters of New Hampshire’s coast or by the shores of Big Island Pond in Derry, swimming, picnicking, and reveling in the beauty of water and sky.

Her family includes her parents, Robert F. and Nancy P. Cobban, brother R. Alec and sister-in-law Rachel, all of Derry, sister, Marion M. Cobban, of Chester, five nieces and nephews, one grand-niece, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday August 7th at 1:30pm at the First Congregational Church, corner of Hanover and Union Streets in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Bldg., 360 State Rt. 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032 The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
