SEVEROS RAYMOND "PAT" CHIRILLO, a lifelong resident of Hingham, passed away on Monday, April 8th, 2013 at his home after a long illness at the age of 77.
The beloved husband of Rosemary (Kerr) Chirillo for 49 years and father of Patricia A. O'Neil of Hingham. He leaves three grandchildren; Kelsey Rose O'Neil, Brianna Nicole O'Neil and Patrick James O'Neil. He was the brother of Thomas Chirillo of Hull, Joseph Chirillo of Weymouth and Lawrence Chirillo of Holbrook. Pat is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Pat grew up in Hull and graduated from Hull schools. At age 15, he and a friend were at Nantasket Beach when they saw an Air Force plane crash. They swam out and rescued the pilot, thus receiving Air Force wings for his heroism which is posted in the Hull Live Saving Museum. Pat later went on to become a golden gloves boxer, winning 49 of 50 fights. He worked for the Laborers Union Local # 133 in Quincy, MA for 50 years before retiring in 2000. His passion was his vegetable garden which he shared with his friends and family every time they stopped by. He was known for his prize winning dahlia's which were always notably unique.
Funeral Thursday, April 11th at 9 AM from the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham followed by funeral mass at St. Paul’s Church, 147 North Street, Hingham Square at 10 AM.
Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be appreciated to South Shore Hospice, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370.
The interment is private.
