Obituary

Richard G. Salemi 70, of School St. Forestdale, died Friday at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Salvatore N. and Ethel (Trepanier) Salemi. Richard worked for the Nelmor Co. in Uxbridge MA, for over thirty years, retiring as a service technician. He served in the Army National Guard for six years, Company B 118th Engineering Battalion and was discharged in September 1969. He was a lifetime car enthusiast who raced dragsters and top fuel dragsters. He later was a collector of classic cars.Richard was a licensed pilot and owned a Piper and Mooney airplanes. He was an avid sportsman, and traveled to numerous hunting expeditions, including Newfoundland, British Columbia and several trips to Alaska for bears, moose, caribou and Dall Rams.

Richard is survived by a brother, Robert E. Salemi of Forestdale, with whom he lived, three sisters; Eunice A. Lydon of Blackstone, Jane C. Ogg of Glendale, and Ethel F. Salemi-Brown of Stratham, NH, three nephews, one niece, and four great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church St. Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers donations to Rhode Island SPCA 186 Amaral St. Riverside, RI 02915 in his memory would be appreciated.
