Raymond G. Surprenant, 80, of Woonsocket, died Thursday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Richard) Surprenant. They were married on June 14, 1952.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Arthur and Ella (Lavimoidiere) Surprenant. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
A heavy equipment mechanic by trade, Ray was employed at Aiello Construction Co. in Smithfield for many years and had also worked for several other firms in the area.
Ray was a dedicated Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. He was also a skilled woodworker having crafted a number of pieces of furniture, toys, and decorative items.
Ray will be most remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by a son Rene Surprenant (Judith) of FL, four daughters Paulette DeDentro (George) of North Smithfield, Claudette Simmons (John) of Riverside, Annette Beauchamp (Greg) and Suzette Lebrun (Alan) all of Woonsocket. He was the brother of Robert and Roger Surprenant, Lillian Hlywalk, Vivianne Desmarais, Violet Leclair, and Muriel Auclair. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor and remember Ray’s life at visiting hours on Monday from 5-8 pm in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN., 38105.
