BEVERLY: Joseph D. Miller, 77, died on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Rosina “Rosie” (Galui) Miller who died in July 2012.
Born in Georgetown County, South Carolina on March 28, 1936, he was the son of the late Herbert S. and Sarah C. (Evans) Miller. He had resided in Columbia, South Carolina for several years and currently living at Turtle Creek in Beverly. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he served in the 1st Marine Division as a machine gunner. He also patrolled the DMZ and was an MP on the Freedom Bridge Crossing the Imjin River.
Joe worked in both the shoe manufacturing industry and in the semi-conductor business for several years.
He is survived by his two grandchildren, J. Coty and Christian Miller both of Beverly; two brothers, David S. Miller of Alma, GA and Jimmy A. Miller and his wife, Jane of Camden, SC; stepson, Thomas Prata and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Joseph D. Miller, Jr., two brothers and two sisters.
His funeral service will be held on Monday in the Harmony Grove Cemetery, 30 Grove Street, Salem at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Beverly Senior Center, 90 Colon St., Beverly, MA 01915. Arrangements are under the direction of the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly.
