Nancy Gibson Purgason, 73, of Tifton passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Bill Johnson, Wilbur Webb, Wade Clark, Earl Henderson, Paul Spradley and Bob Lynch will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Sunday school class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Purgason was born on March 21, 1940 in LaGrange and was the daughter of Thomas J. Gibson and Ruth Burson Gibson, both deceased. Nancy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tifton and the Joy Sunday school class, which she really loved. Nancy was a homemaker, and had been a teller with the First Community Bank of Tifton. She loved her flowers and really enjoyed growing them, working in her yard and caring for her family.
Mrs. Purgason is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald T. Purgason of Tifton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Ernie Carter and Amy Purgason, all of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald “Tommy” and Ruby Purgason of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Gary Stokes of Marietta; a brother-in-law, Harvey K. Purgason of Los Angeles, California; and a number of nieces and nephews.
