Obituary

Arlene Hedwiga Spurgas, 78, of Duxbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Arlene was born to Edward and Hedwiga Wimpfheimer on October 27, 1934. Growing up on a dairy farm in East Granby, Connecticut, Arlene went on to become a registered nurse, working in Hartford and various nursing homes on the South Shore. After marrying the love of her life, Edwin Ronald Spurgas, of Norwich, Connecticut, the two raised three children in Rockland, Mass before settling down in Duxbury.
Arlene loved gardening, baking, sewing, and knitting. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, and was the dedicated and loving grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Christine M. Recupero, David W. Watson, Hannah S. Watson, Emma E. Lennon, Rachel C. Lennon, and Grace V. Lennon.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Edwin Spurgas; her older brother, Edward Wimpfheimer, Jr. and her children, Deborah Spurgas Watson and her partner James Doyle of Plymouth, Judith M. Lennon and her husband John of Green Harbor, and Edwin Ronald Spurgas, Jr. and his partner Michael McCormick of Marshfield.
Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 2-6 pm at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1775 Ocean Street, Rte 139, Marshfield. A funeral in Arlene’s honor will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home on Monday, April 8 at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury at 11 am.
Interment will be in the Mayflower Cemetery Duxbury.
