Jimmy L. Carter, 77, from Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Dorminy Mill Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Gay and the Rev. Isaac Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Dorminy Mill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Carter was born July 15, 1935, in Picnic, Florida, to the late Albert Turner and Blanche Lewis Carter. He was a graduate of Pinecrest High School in Lithia, Florida and served his country in the United States Navy. He attended Art School for a short time. He lived in the community since 1981 coming from Tampa, Florida. He was former co-owner and operator of Hunt Master Sports Products where he oversaw chemical compounding of the hunting and fishing products the Company produced. He and his wife Margaret supervised packaging and bottling. He was the art director of the Down Home Sportsman TV program. He also worked for Old Ninety Seven and worked as a handy man for E. Q. Downing and Link Realty. He was a deacon and former member of Dorminy Mill Baptist Church and a member of Prospect Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a man that loved his family and loved his Lord.
He is survived by son: James & Pam Carter of Sycamore; daughter: Jerri Ann Griffin of Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho; three grandchildren: Justin Carter, Jessica Hatcher and Miranda Carter Carmichael; six great-grandchildren and a sister: Barbara Jean Appleby of Picnic, Florida. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Margaret Ann Bailey Carter; two brothers: Kenneth Carter and Billy Carter.
