Mary T. (Mello) Cregan, 79, of New Bedford, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of the late William Dennis Cregan, Jr.
Born in New Bedford the daughter of the late Dennis and Maria (Benevides) Mello, she lived in Cleveland, Ohio and New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Cregan was formerly employed as a licensed practical nurse at Taber Street Nursing Home and Hallmark Nursing Home until her retirement.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she attended Mass daily.
Well-known and loved in the South End, Mrs. Cregan had been President of the South End Neighborhood Watch. She enjoyed spending time at the Hazelwood and Buttonwood Senior Centers.
Survivors include four sons, William Dennis Cregan III, Michael Patrick Cregan, and Dennis John Cregan and his wife Traci, all of New Bedford, and Timothy Joseph Cregan and his wife Mandy of Brockton; and 12 grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Daniel Anthony Cregan, mother-in-law of the late Denise (Carter) Cregan, and sister of the late John Mello, Emily Coleman and Elsie Rosa.
A private Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday morning in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 230 Bonney St., New Bedford, MA 02744.
