age 88 of Weymouth on April 2, 2013. Beloved husband of Kathleen F. (Scullin) and the late Helen F. (Ryan). Devoted father of James A. Cronin Jr. of Quincy, Joseph F. and his wife Jacqueline Barry of Mendon, Patricia M. Pizzano and her husband Vincent of Hanson, Marguerite L. Somerville and her fiancé Eric Hartley of Carver, Robert P. and his wife Christina Gilmore of Plymouth, and David C. of Weymouth. Stepfather of Maureen Flynn of Macon, Georgia and the late Michael Flynn. Loving Grandfather of Daniel Ryan and Andrew Doten Somerville of Carver, Marie Elizabeth, John Ryan and Julia Frances Cronin of Plymouth, and Corey Martin of Hull. He is also survived by brother Edward V. of CT, along with many nieces and nephews. James proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. His military service positions included clerk typist and radio operator. He was a Pistol Sharpshooter. He earned the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon before being Honorably Discharged in February of 1946. A “Double Eagle”, James was a graduate of both Boston College High School and Boston College. He taught in the Boston Public Schools from the 1950’s through the 1980’s, spending many of those years at the Elihu Greenwood School on Hyde Park Avenue as both an educator and administrator. James also taught English at Boston State College at both the Evening and Summer Programs. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest source of pride and joy was his family. A devout Catholic, he volunteered at Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth, as a Eucharistic Minister along with performing other tasks. He was an avid Red Sox fan. Funeral from the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home, 10 Tower St. (Opp. Forest Hills MBTA Station) Jamaica Plain on Monday April 8 at 9:15 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 97 South Street, Jamaica Plain at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-7 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
