LOWELL---Gerald P. Barry, 89, a Lowell native, and World War II veteran, died July 28th, at Westford House, with his family at his side. He was the husband of the late Rita M. (Keenan) Barry who died in 1996.
He was born in Lowell, in 1914, a son of the late William A and Mary (Allen) Barry, and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
Mr. Barry had been employed as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Lowell Housing Authority for many years. Prior to his employment at the Housing Authority, he worked for several years at Notre Dame Academy, in Tyngsboro, and at the Strand and Merrimack Theaters in Lowell. Upon his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and tending to his garden.
He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and held membership in the Holy Name Society of that parish.
Surviving him are two sons, Gerald P. Barry Jr., and his wife Jane, of Annapolis, MD; Robert D. Barry, of Quincy, and his close friend, Patricia Pickett; two daughters: Barbara Nowak, and her husband, W. John, of Simsbury CT; and Elaine Francis, and her husband Gerald, of Westford; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ruth, Marie, Bill, Allen, Edward and Leo.
Friends may call from 10 until 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 31st, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Saturday, July 31st, at 12 noon at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
