Obituary

HOLYOKE – Doris L. (Gauthier) Bernier, 83, of Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on February 10, 1930, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Georgianna (Gauthier) Gauthier and attended schools in Sherbrooke, Province of Quebec, Canada. Doris had lived in the Willimansett section of Chicopee for many years before moving to San Fernando Valley, California. She later returned to the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee before moving to Holyoke in 2008. She was employed as a book stitcher for 18 years with Avery Dennison in Chicopee and retired in 1992. She was a member of Club 55 at Avery Dennison and a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and also enjoyed making rosary beads for many local missions. Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center for the wonderful care they provided to Doris during her time with them. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, George O. Bernier who was Called Home on June 6, 2006; and her three brothers, Adrian, Lucien and Julian Gauthier. Doris leaves her loving sister, Claire A. Fournier and her husband Roger of Holyoke; her sister in law, Anita Gauthier of South Hadley; and her niece, Patricia Rook and her husband John of Trumbull, CT. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 9 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Mary’s Garden in care of Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
