After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1940, he served in the US Army during WWII. Subsequently, he returned to Yale University, graduating in 1946 as a member of the class of 1944.
John and Ann were married on November 27, 1948, and they were longtime residents of Wellesley where they raised their children. He worked as a financial advisor in Boston until his retirement in 1997 from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney where he was a vice-president. John also served as a Trustee for Gourmet magazine for 8 years, and he was a member of the Executive Board of Wyman's of Maine for 20 years. John loved sports, both as a participant and a spectator. He was an avid golfer and was twice the champion at Brae Burn Country Club. He was also on the Brae Burn curling team that twice won the Stockton Bonspiel. John greatly enjoyed fishing in Buzzard's Bay and for salmon in Quebec. Although John had season tickets to the Red Sox and Bruins for many years, his favorite spectator sport was football. Fall Saturdays would entail trips to New Haven, CT to tailgate at the Yale Bowl with family and friends, and Sundays were for Patriots games at Braves Field, Harvard Stadium, Fenway Park, Alumni Stadium, and Foxboro Stadium. John and Ann traveled extensively, and he could traverse a museum in record time. However, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family. For the last seven years, John and Ann lived at North Hill in Needham, where he was an active participant in many activities and was well known by the residents and staff for his outgoing demeanor.
