Obituary

John J. "Maggy" Maguire Jr., a resident of Haverhill and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford following an extended illness. He was 91 years old.

John was born in Boston on August 12, 1921, a son of the late John J. Maguire and Anna (Taylor) Maguire. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended the Boston Public School system. He enlisted into the United States Navy on September 17, 1942 and served his country proudly and honorably during World War II. He was discharged honorably on December 10, 1945 with the rank of Water Tender, Second Class. John worked at the Quincy Cold Storage Company in Quincy for over 30 years and was a Shop Stewart for the Warehouseman's Union of the International Longshoreman's Union. He also worked as a custodian for the United States Postal Service for several years.

John is the husband of Mildred Maguire. He is the devoted father of Susan Maguire-Serrano of Virginia, John J. Maguire III of Charlestown, Lawrence F. Maguire of Charlestown, Robert L. "Muff" Maguire of Charlestown, Stephen M. Maguire and his wife Susan of Wakefield and the late David Maguire. He is the loving grandfather of David, Kimberlee, Kristan, Sunny, Ana Karina, Mollie, Paige and his great-grandchildren; Marisa, Erica and Nicholas.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
