Obituary

Joseph H. Cyr Jr., 83, of Fall River, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Dolores (Antonelli) Cyr to whom he was married for 36 years. Born in Fall River, July 25, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Annie L. (Davis) Cyr.

He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, class of 1947. He was a World War II veteran who enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served in Occupied Japan as an MP. Joseph retired as a Deputy Chief in 1993 after 39 years of service with the Fall River Fire Department. He was a member of the Fall River Firefighters Association, Local 1314 and the Fall River Permanent Firemens Benefit Association, serving as an officer and on various committees. He was employed for many years at the A & P Supermarket and the Thom McAnn Shoe Store. He was also a member of the Liberal Club in Fall River where he always enjoyed a good game of cards.

He is survived by three children; Cynthia Gannon and her husband Greg of Somerset, Joseph Cyr of Newport, RI, and Nancy Cyr and James Reitzas. He is also survived by one grandson, Sam Gannon of Somerset; two sisters, Mary Pfeifer of Pennsylvania and Pauline Briere of Somerset and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Adam Cyr and brother of the late John T. Cyr.

His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on WEDNESDAY at 10:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
