Obituary

Helen D. Covino, 92 of Medford died Saturday in the Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, Melrose, MA.

Born in Boston, she was a lifelong resident of Medford and was the daughter of the late Delitta (Polcari) and Felix Iovanni. Helen was the beloved wife of the late Ralph Covino late proprietor of the popular Covino’s Market in South Medford. In her younger days, Helen was a champion long distance swimmer. She was beloved by all that knew her. Helen loved life, her church and cats Rico and Sugar. She also adored a special dog named Manny. Helen spent her summers at Hickory Hills Lake in Lunenburg, MA and was looking forward to returning there again this year.


Devoted mother of Ralph Covino and his wife Elizabeth of Andover, Anna Thompson and her husband William of Malden. Loving grandmother of Ralph and Joseph Covino, and Kathryn LaBatte.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in Helen’s name to the Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice, Inc., 178 Savin St., Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148.
