Gregory Michael Murphy, 72, of Londonderry, NH died on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown, NH following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1941 in Lewiston, Maine, a son of the late Raymond and Marion (Mclntyre) Murphy. After graduating from high school, Gregory proudly served his country with the US Army stationed in Germany. He was a bus driver for many years for Trailways and later was the owner and operator of Meineke Muffler in Lawrence for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing at the ocean and lakes, as well as gardening. Gregory was always an avid reader and took great pride in being self-taught on many subjects. He loved to vacation, especially to Aruba, and travel. He was a devout Catholic and will be remembered for his strong beliefs, his sense of humor, work ethic and entrepreneurship. But most of all, he will be remembered for his love and great pride in his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cathryn Faulring and her husband Peter of Hudson, MA, Amy O'Brien and her husband Thomas of Greenland, NH, Suzanne O'Gara and her husband Shawn of Londonderry, one son, Michael G. Murphy, of Weare, NH, a daughter-in-law, Paula Murphy of New Boston, NH, twelve well-loved grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Gregory was sadly predeceased by his wife of 43 years Donna Rae Murphy on Oct. 22, 2012. He was also predeceased by a sister, Patricia M. Hannon.
Calling hours were held on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 5-7 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, March 26th at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry, NH. Burial will be in Pillsbury Cemetery, Londonderry in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in Gregory’s memory to the New Hampshire Catholic Charities, PO Box 686, Manchester, NH 03105-0686.
