Emma Stovall, 81, of Raleigh, NC formerly of Worcester died Thursday, March 21st in Rex Hospital. She leaves her husband of 59 years, Gabriel L. Stovall, Sr.; three sons, James Stovall of Worcester, Elijah Cambra of Raleigh, NC and Gabriel L. “Jody” Stovall, Jr. of Worcester; five daughters, Ema Jeana Cambra of Worcester, Muqeedah Salaam, Lynette Stovall and Tammy Stovall-Korva all of Raleigh, NC and Gabrielle “Buffy” Abdur-Rahim of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Bertha Chavis Lemay; many many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Cambra; a daughter, Nicole Channing Stovall; two brothers, Jarvis Chavis and Joseph Chavis and five sisters, Lucinda Chavis-Dunston, Dorothy May Chavis, Ruth Chavis-Crudup, Jessie Chavis and Bessie Chavis-Perkins.
Mrs. Stovall was born in Henderson, North Carolina the daughter of William and Mary Jane (Southerland) Chavis. Emma worked for Worcester State Hospital for many years as a caregiver, retiring 20 years ago. She was a natural caregiver. Emma was a long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Her funeral is Wednesday, March 27th with a service at 11:00 AM in Emmanuel Baptist Church, 717 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 9:00 until 11:00 AM in the church. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester is directing arrangements.
