TAUNTON – Fernando V. Costa, husband of Isabel (Vasconcelos) Costa of Taunton, died at Taunton Nursing Home on March 16, 2013.
He was 87.
Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Idalina (Viveiros) da Costa.
Educated in St. Michael, he worked at the airport traffic control tower in Santa Maria, Azores before immigrating to the U.S. in 1949.
He was later employed by the former Hercules, Inc. in Taunton for many years, retiring in 1979.
A communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Mr. Costa enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, John V. Costa and his wife Julie Wright-Costa of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Roberta V. Costa and Manuela C. Andrade and her husband Joseph, all of Taunton; a brother, Antonio Costa; a sister, Angelina Schanderl, both of St. Michael; two granddaughters, Rachel Costa Andrade of Taunton, and Shannon Costa Andrade of Boston; and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church on Saturday, March 23rd at 9 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
