Murphy, Moira Ann Ph.D., died of Lymphoma in Houston Texas, March 18, 2013. Age 49. Loving mother of Stephan Aguilar, 24, Johan Aguilar, 21, Amirah Orozco, 15, and Ariana Orozco, 14. Daughter of Robert Leo Murphy and his wife Miriam Elliot Murphy of Wellesley Hills and the late Nancy Bowen Murphy. Sister of Stephen Nagle Murphy and his wife Nicole Costo Murphy, and the late Robert Bowen Murphy. Also survived by six step siblings and her aunt Rita Van Gamert formerly of West Roxbury and her uncle and aunt. Dr. and Mrs. Stephen F. Bowen Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri.
Moira received a doctorate in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, a masters degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and a bachelor's degree from Brown University (cum laude). She was a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico in 1996 and a Rotary Fellow in Peru in 1986. She graduated from the Winsor School in Boston in 1981.
She taught for over a decade at the Tec de Monterey in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, where she won several distinguished professor awards. She taught her last years at the University of Texas, El Paso, and published numerous books and articles on border trade and human rights..
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (RT. 16) WELLESLEY, Friday at 10:30 AM. Funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills, at 11 AM.
