Norberto Silvestre doCouto, 96 of Fall River, Massachusetts, son of Antonio Silvestre do Couto and Maria Almeida, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 16, 2013 amongst four generations of family after a long life well lived. He is survived by wife Maria, son John and his wife Maria Luisa, daughter Maria and her husband Tiago, and son Manuel and his wife Maryann; five grandchildren, Paul and his wife Jessica, John and his wife Ana, Joyce, Amy and Christine; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Katherine, Sarah, Emily, and Matthew, and many nieces and nephews.
Born December 18, 1916 in Arrifes, St. Michael, Portugal, Norberto was a successful dairy farmer before immigrating to the United States in 1966, after which he worked for Plymouth Rubber Company until 1980. He enjoyed a long retirement which he spent perfecting his garden, fishing, making wine, and spending time with his family.
Norberto will be remembered for his vibrant humor, sharp memory, untied shoelaces and straw hat. Norberto touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River, MA on THURSDAY at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours WEDNESDAY 5-8 P.M.
