Candida "Candy" (Nobre) Bishop, 91, of Westport, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center.
Born in New Bedford she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Georgina N.(Mello) Alves and had resided in Westport since 1968. She was the wife of the late Roma Gamache and Alfred Bishop. Mrs. Bishop was the owner and operator of Candy's and Silhouette Beauty Salons both of Fall River and a former president of the Massachusetts Hairdressers Association. She also operated Bishop's Tax Service of Westport and volunteered her time doing taxes at the Westport Council on Aging. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and a member of the Franco American Womens Association. Candy also enjoyed reading and belonged to numerous organizations.
Survivors include a son: John Martins and wife Susan of Westport; a daughter: Sheila Martel and husband Ron of Westport; a sister: Georgia Kimple of OH; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was Grandmother of the late Megan Candace and sister of the late Mary Leandre.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, New Bedford.
