Clara M. (DiIanni) Mahoney, a 56 year resident of Charlestown, entered eternal life on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at her home in Charlestown following an extended illness. She was 79 years old.
Clara was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, on April 9, 1933, a daughter of the late Lorenzo DiIanni and Francesca (Giampaolo) DiIanni. She grew up in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania where she attended schools there and graduated high school there. Clara moved to the Boston area over 56 years ago after meeting her then future husband John at Revere Beach. Clara worked at the Bunker Hill Health Center in Charlestown for over 34 years as a Supervisor/Manager and took great pride in helping the many people who required medical attention at the facility. She enjoyed visiting Foxwoods once a month with her friends, but most of all she enjoyed her quality time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Clara is the beloved wife of 56 years to Retired Boston Police Officer John F. Mahoney. She is the devoted mother of Patricia Marshall and her husband David of West Roxbury, AnneMarie Hasanen and her husband Pertti of Charlestown, Elaine "Lainie" Sheehan and her husband Kieran of Charlestown, Eileen Mahoney of Charlestown, John Mahoney of Charlestown and Thomas Mahoney and his wife Patricia of Braintree. She is the loving Nana to 11 grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Elizabeth DeJulio of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Emma Buckley of Boston, Nunzio DiIanni of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Anthony DiIanni of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania and the late Aldo DiIanni. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Clara's Funeral on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
