WORCESTER-Helen J. (Stamatelatos) Gianakis, 70, of 14 Oberlin Street, died Sunday, July 25th in Athens, Greece while visiting family. Her husband James N. Gianakis died in 1992. She leaves her son, Nicholas J. and his wife, Rebecca Gianakis of East Douglas, a daughter, Catherine J., wife of James P. Brady of Hudson, NH, a brother, Herikles Stamatelatos of Slatersville, RI, a sister, Sophia Stathoulopoulos of Athens, 4 grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Brady, Jessica and James Gianakis and several nephews and nieces.
She was born in Kefalonia, Greece the daughter of Argirios and Politimi (Vandoros) Stamatolatos and came to Worcester in 1955. Mrs. Gianakis had worked in the family owned business New England Roast Beef. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
The funeral is Monday, August 2nd from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, August 1st from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
