HOLLISTON: Hallett “Stu” Baker, Jr., age 78, a resident of Mission Springs in Holliston and a former longtime resident of Ashland, died on Friday morning, March 15, 2013, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. He was the devoted husband of the late Joan (Raftery) Baker for 28 years.
Born in Natick, he was a son of the late Hallett S. and Thelma (Hem) Baker. Stu moved to Jefferson, NH, in his youth and after attending the Jefferson schools returned to South Natick. At that time he started work as a carpenter and served with the Army National Guard.
Stu and Joan married in 1955 and the young couple made their home in Ashland.
He started work in the security office of the General Motors Plant in Framingham and for the next thirty years was employed guarding the premises. By the time he retired, Joan had passed away and after a couple of years he decided to move back to New Hampshire. He settled in Holliston seven years ago. Stu enjoyed being at home working on various projects, if not helping others with theirs. He was an ardent fisherman and loved to hunt, so at various times he could be found either off Cape Cod or in the mountains. He had kept close with many friends from all periods of his life and was happiest spending time with family.
He is survived by his son, Stephen D. Baker and his wife Kristi of Medway; his daughter, Cheryl A. Goodspeed and her husband Rick of Medway; three grandchildren, Laura, Lisa, and Trevor; a brother, Robert Baker and his wife Winnie of NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late David and Charlie Baker.
His funeral will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday, March 20th at 1:30p.m. Burial will follow at Dell Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, 4 – 7p.m.
