Margaret M. (Doherty) Martell, a longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston following an extended illness. She was 84 years old.
Margaret was born in Belfast, Ireland on November 22, 1928, a daughter of the late John Doherty and Catherine (McBrearly) Doherty. She grew up in Chelsea and attended St. Rose Parochial School and graduated from St. Rose High School in Chelsea. She was a switchboard operator for New England Telephone Company for several years and also worked for Dupont Company in Boston. Margaret enjoyed playing bingo, going to yard sales and most of all spending quality time with her family.
Margaret is the beloved wife of the late John L. "Lou" Martell. She is the devoted mother of John and Cheryl Martell of Billerica, Steven Martell of Boston, David and Mary Martell of Chestnut Hill, Daniel and Kerri Martell of Reading and the late Kevin Martell and Paul Martell. She is the loving Nana to Shannon Tackaberry, Annie Martell, Jack Martell, Owen Martell and Emily Martell and her great-grandaughters; Sadie and Annabelle. She is the beloved sister of Mary MacDougall of Groveland, Joseph Doherty of South Carolina, and the late Michael Doherty, Kathleen Gaudet and John Doherty.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Margaret's Funeral on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours Friday, March 15, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
