Frank J. Skammels, 98, of Westport died Wednesday March 13, 2013 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was husband of the late Anna C. (Feliks) Skammels.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Thomas and Annie (Connell) Skammels, he had lived in Westport since 1960. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. Prior to retirement in 1975, he worked for the former Railway Express Company in Fall River for 38 years. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. Frank enjoyed fishing, quahogging in the Westport River and playing pitch at the Westport Social Club, but most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include 2 sons: Thomas C. Skammels of Westport and Jack Skammels and wife Pamela of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Kailan, Seth, Jessica, Mia and Justin; a great granddaughter: Kiara; his dear friends: John and Diane Colletti; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, March 16, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 9:00 A.M.
Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
