Earle B. Bargasse, 87, of New Bedford died March 11, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Mary L. (Andrade) Bargasse.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Louis and Ruth (Harrison) Bargasse, he lived in New Bedford all his life.
Mr. Bargasse was an active parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed as the bar manager at the New Bedford Yacht Club for 52 years until his retirement.
Mr. Bargasse served in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the Occupation Medal of Germany and the World War II Victory medal.
He was a former member and past exalted ruler of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, William H. Carney Lodge 200.
Survivors include 2 sons, James Bargasse and his companion Rita Harris of New Bedford and Martin Conceicao and his wife Ilda of Freetown; a brother, Francis Harrison of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Pauline Cofield of Boston and Doris Jones of Philadelphia; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, March 15th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday, March 14th from 4-8 PM.
