Fred W. Bopp Jr. age 78 of Berkley, passed away on March 7, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Cavanagh) Bopp and the son of the late Fred W. and Anna (Mohrnheim) Bopp. Prior to retiring, Fred was the Deputy Tax Collector for thirteen cities and towns in Massachusetts, and founded F.W.B. Associates of Assonet, Massachusetts. He was the owner of Coastline Towing Inc., a tug boat company with vessels stationed in Fall River, MA and Providence, RI. He was a retired Berkley, MA Police Officer, and a U.S. Navy Veteran during the end of the Korean War.
Fred was a Merchant Marine Captain and a Coast Guard Certified “Master of Oceans Unlimited.” He was Captain of the award winning boat “St. Jude” and spent many summers big game fishing off the coast of Massachusetts with family and friends. Fred was a self-taught Computer Programmer, designing various programs and systems and was very generous helping friends with setting up home computers. He was Ham Radio Operator, photographer, and an award winning AMA remote control airplane operator. Fred was a Eucharistic Minister and parishioner of St Joseph Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Margaret Neary (husband John) of Barrington, RI, Michael Oliveira (wife Courtney) of Martha’s Vineyard, Jean Oliveira of Fall River, Stephen Oliveira of Swansea, John Oliveira (wife Sue) of Berkley, David Oliveira (wife Betsi) of Somerset, Laura Oliveira (husband Carl) of VA, Fred W. Bopp III (wife Jane) of ME, Andrea Bopp Stark (husband Dylan) of ME, Michael Bopp (wife Joanna) of VA; 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews and will be forever held in the highest regard by his dog “Magnum.”
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on MONDAY at 11:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 12:30 P.M. Private Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
