Obituary

Roger H. Roy, 83, of Dartmouth died July 23, 2004, unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.

He was the husband of the late Patricia A. (Taylor) Roy.

Born in Hyde Park, Vermont, the son of the late Albert and Rose Alma (Lague) Roy, he was raised in Acushnet and had lived in Dartmouth most of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth.

Mr. Roy was formerly employed as an auto mechanic at Crocker Ford in East Providence for many years. In his youth, he worked with his father at Long Plain Dairy in Acushnet.

Mr. Roy served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the American Legion.He was an avid reader, Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed camping and fishing.

Mr. Roy was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Sharon Oliveria, and her husband Richard, and Nancy Wood, and her husband Christopher, all of Dartmouth; a brother, Norman Roy of Florida; 4 grandchildren, Phillip Oliveira, Ross Oliveira, Megan Wood and Alex Wood; Michael Feeney, who was like a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Marie Therese Hopkins, Florien Roy, William Roy and Glorianna Cormier.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, Monday, July 26th at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
